FAQ

What is the best way to prepare ginkgo nuts?

Ginkgo nuts are most commonly cooked in pan over high heat or microwave for 2-3 minutes until the shells pop open.  The shells can be broken away and the outer brown skin (pericarp) is peeled off to reveal the succulent yellow green nut ready to eat.

How would you describe the Ginkgo nut taste?

Ginkgo nuts at their flavoursome best have a camembert cheese taste that is pleasantly pungent.  It is a highly valued and unique flavour in many Asian dishes.

Why is fresh important?

Only fresh Ginkgo deliver the best taste that chefs look for.  Dried Ginkgo have increased levels of astringency that detracts from the eating experience.

How long can I store the Ginkgo in the fridge?

Fresh Ginkgo nuts are succulent and will lose moisture over time even in the shell.  As a guide we have included a Best Before date on the pack based on the storage at between 2C-8C and high relative humidity.

Are wrinkled nuts OK to eat?

Ginkgo nuts are succulent and best eaten fresh.  However mild wrinkling should not adversely affect the taste of the nut.

What nutritional values do Ginkgo nuts have?
